Can be a few reasons.

1) Is your itunes library local or some of the media is on an external drive.

2) you hard drive isn't reading all the data right because its failing.

3) standard system corruptio.

Is it a problem? I was just considering moving 500+ GB of music from my internal to external hard drive to free up space in my laptop.

Your computer is working until you open iTunes?
My computer is working fine even after opening itunes. I just wanna free up the hard drive a bit so things can speed up.

I have a different problem, though, whenever I try to sync my ipod (classic 160 gb) after loading with music I get the following error message "A duplicate filename was specified..." and it doesn't let the ipod sync. Has anyone got a solution?
