Looks like my nest is going back to where it came from, having a big gas bill this month for all the problems that it caused. Anyone can recommend a similar thermostat that can be programmed a few times per day?

You can make a drop of money getting two of these and selling them on Ebay.

Total cost to buy 1 including taxes is $166 and they are selling for approx. $225 on Ebay.

Just wanted to point out that the seller needs to pay a final selling fee to ebay of 10%($22.5) in
addition to paypal fees(~$6.75) and shipping(~$10). The end profit is approx. $20 per unit, so probably only
worth your time if you order multiple units.

I actually have that exact thermostat and installed a c wire myself.
I watched a vid or 2 on youtube and purchased a "AC to DC 24V 500mA power adapter" on ebay for $6.
I had an outlet on the baseboard aprox 10 ft away. Plugged in the adapter and ran the wires behind the baseboard till right under my thermostat. Drilled a small hole right above the baseboard and ran the wire through the hole, behind the wall, to the back of the thermostat. Was quite simple.
Note: my old thermostat had only 2 wires (red and white) so adding an external power source was the only option, if yours has more than that, there may be a simple fix of just adjusting some wire on the boiler.

And BTW having a wifi thermostat is awesome.

Maybe they can now fix the "offline" problem I keep having. At least Google knows software!

Just saw that....not sure how I feel about it...
I hope it means we will start getting better software updates and customization.
Google runs most of my life already why not throw my thermostat into the ring.
If they can get this to really take off they will be able to provide a much better interface. (or vice versa - if they want it to take off they will first update the UI.)

I would be very curious to see what the financial support is for this purchase. That's a lot of thermostats they need to sell for such a high valuation.

Hope this isn't another Skype...

FYI according to the person I spoke with Nest will reimburse up to $99 for installing a "Common Wire". You would probably need to send them the invoice from an electrician.

NEST bought by Google for $3.2 billion in cash. How many briefcases did they need?
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.
