Unreal. A fool and his money are soon parted.
Wouldn't be surprised if some smart ones saw this coming and made bank.

FYI according to the person I spoke with Nest will reimburse up to $99 for installing a "Common Wire". You would probably need to send them the invoice from an electrician.

I tried to get this (when I still had mine) but wasn't offer. And a C wire won't work with my machine, and if it would, the charge is $150+

Is a C the same as a common wire?

FYI, when AC season started I was having some issues with  the system cycling on and off since I don't have a C wire.

Nest offered to pay for installation (didn't mention any dollar limit).

I got it done for $85  and am submitting the bill to Nest.

Lucky... By me it was about $300 so I just returned my Nest

FYI- I was contacted by nest since they've developed a software patch to fix this issue.

They tested it with me on the phone and as compensation for my time gave me a choice of either a fleece blanket or two thermoses from here:

Its very simple. You shut off the feature that lights up the screen when you approach (some keep it off always - i like to keep it on during the week) and you shut off the sensor that knows when you are away.

What about just covering the Nest with a towel or something for Shabbos? Would this fix the issue, and what would the affect be of it's ability to cool/heat?

Seriously?
A) Super ugly and it would fall off
B) Easier to just change the setting in the menu
C) It would make the sensor think that it's super hot in the house. In the summer - it would run your AC the entire Shabbos. In the winter -your heat would never turn on.

I was in a yeshiva that had the thermostats locked so the bochurim couldn't change them. We'd hang a hat over it so it would think it was really hot and turn on the AC :)

Any thermostat would do that if you covered it with a towel.

I don't mean a towel, specifically. I mean like covering the motion sensors with something (a sticker?). Same idea as a light switch cover.

You have to do this every week? Isn't that annoying?
