Tablet vs Ultrabook
« on: November 26, 2012, 05:33:36 PM »
I've been looking into buying a tablet.  I might go with the Galaxy Note 10.1 as I am a fan of the S-pen.   It will mostly be used for traveling. And I'll mostly be surfing the web,  booking tickets, checking e-bay and writing emails on it.

At the end of the day I am usually more a fan of a regular laptop such as the HP Folio.

How easy is it to do all the activities mentioned above on a tablet?

Also any opinions or thoughts on which tablet to buy is appreciated.

I've actually narrowed it down to the Note 10.1 and the Nexus 10. Do you own the Nexus 10?

Anyone here own it? How do you like it?

For the purposes you mentioned the chromebook might be a good idea at a much lower price. (if you can find somewhere that has it in stock)

To comment on your title - Tablet vs Ultrabook

IMHO there is no Comparison

I have an Asus Transformer with a Keyboard dock. Its pretty productive, But my no means does it come close to a Laptop/Ultrabook, that is running a full OS, and has a capable processor.

I know they are different.  My question was if a tablet would be 'enough' for what I need it for.

Any decent tablet is capable of
"surfing the web,  booking tickets, checking e-bay and writing emails"

Tablets are cool and fun, but a Ultrabook will deff be more productive. Easier to type on, much faster web browsing ect.

Anyone here try the surface by microsoft?
I used it for a bit and its a really nice piece and can be used as both.
A bit too expensive though.

I'm looking for a tablet for my father. He currently uses a netbook with a USB WIFI stick. Its terribly slow and unreliable. I need something that can have a 3G/LTE connection. The primary uses is email, surfing, ebay, and other online auctions. Mostly to be used while commuting. Ease of use and price will be the deciding factors. I have the iPad 2, and use it all the time for email, surfing etc. and its great. Is there anything cheaper that can have a wireless connection to use when not around WIFI?

I welcome all recommendations and advice.

TIA.

I dont find it expensive. Any decent tablet runs in the $500 range.

Thats the market price

I really do enjoy the Note for it's S-pen. It's great for editing pics as well as hand written notes... and coloring :)

When holding the Nexus 10 sideways how strange does it feel since it's thinner on one side than the other?

Any more details you can give me? Pros and Cons?

Does anyone know when/if the Nexus 10 will be sold in stores?
