just a little follow up to my OP.
after I was rebooked for Dec 13 I saw that the agent only rebooked one passenger. so I called in last night and the rep said there was no more room on the flight so she would have to move us to Jan 13 I asked her to reinstate the miles to the account without penelty since it was their error, she transfered me to a suppervisior, supper says its partially my fualt for not checking my email for errors so he would charge me $75 insead of $150. I tried to explain my case nicely to him how its AA fualt, he again put the blame on me. at that point I blew up on him saying that I've been planning for this trip for a while and the rep messes up my trip my work schedule I even have to cancel my cab to the airport, I'm being nice and not asking you to put me on the flight. and you want to charge me the fee. at that point he was mad and said 'Ok I'm not going to charge you any fee but I will put note on your account that you should never get any fees waived of this kind.
