Back in the day we used to visit Egypt all the time.. Cheap, fun, interesting and amazing sites-they generally treated us as "American$" withe great respect... wouldn't go touring now though.

On the Agad bus schedule, it lists a daily bus from right near you, central bus station (tachna mercazeet!) in Jerusalem to Cairo. So in mendoul case you may want to invite him during the 12 hour stay!

Before you venture out of the airport, find out which places require you to get a visa to go.

Different places require different visas. For instance a visa for Sharm el-Sheikh is not the same visa for Cairo...

you dont need a special visa for sharm el sheikh (unless you want to go to ras muhammad)

if going through eilat, you need to get a special visa at the egyptian consulate to visit cairo

that same visa can be obtained in cairo airport upon arrival fwiu

I still recall the time I showed the la meridian Dead Sea my Cairo stamp to prove I just got to Israel and avoid the taxes! They actually asked me where it says I'm a tourist because I was all dressed up for the occasion.

ha that's awesome! When I went to Egypt with a friend who played shtick with his passport, the Israeli border agent told him you can go but no guarantees that we will let you back in...
