Things to do:
Pier Village in Long Branch (on the boardwalk) is a nice area to walk around & shop.
Jersey Shore Premium Outlets is off exit 100A on the Garden State Pkway and has the best shopping.
Point Pleasent Boardwalk and Arcade
Seaside Heights Arcade + Water Park + Amusement Park
The Asbury Park boardwalk has some arcades, but not much else.
The BEACH! After all, it is the Jersey SHORE!
Six Flags Great Adventure and Wild Safari is about 30-35 miles away.
There are at least 4 golf courses within 5+ miles from the area.

Where to Stay:

Ocean place is really nice, just not sure if their are any shuls in the area.

Here are some hotels within walking distance to a shul.

Sheraton Eatontown Hotel (25 Min. Walk)
6 Industrial Way E
Eatontown, NJ 07724
732-542-6500
www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/

Staybridge Suites (25 Min. Walk)
4 Industrial Way East
Eatontown, NJ 07724
732-380-9300
www.ichotelsgroup.com

Holiday Inn Express Hotel (30 Min. Walk)
294 State Route 36
West Long Branch, NJ 07764
732-542-1234
www.hielongbranch.com

The bed & breakfast on cedar avenue called "Cedars & Beeches" is a cute mom & pop b&b that is 10 minute walk from 3 syrian shuls, 1 eshkanaz shul and the beach. Although not as extravagant as the Ocean Place, I would say that is your best bet for a shabbos.

Conveniently leave out the prices for the aged beef ;)
the fact that soups are $20 & appetizers are creeping up to $40 scares me

Its still not NYC where you can say the price is justified.

Take a look at the place and the rest of pier village before you say that. The place is very high end. This is no tent matzav in entree. This is quite an experience.

Any restaurant opening up now will be overpriced due to the increased labor and food expenses, and a very high end restaurant in a summer town is expected to charge an additional premium on top.

Thanks.

I liked how the author actually did the homework. This article is really damaging to the restaurant.

“The question arises as to when menu prices are considered cost prohibitive for even the most affluent in the communities that these restaurants serve.”

I would say when people start voting with their wallet. As of now the reservations are booked a month in advance, with a minimum $25/pp deposit. But in the long term “who wants to pay $22.00 for an order of garlic bread? I really think that in order to keep a steady flow of customers coming to their restaurants, these owners have to seriously rethink their menu pricing and try and make it affordable for the average working person.”

Disagree about every restaurant being affordable for average working people, plenty of Manhattan restaurants aren’t affordable and do just fine. And for people living near the Jersey shore if you want to go somewhere special for an anniversary you’ll spend more after parking and tolls to go to Manhattan plus a tiring 90 minute drive each way. Yet remains to be seen whether customers will be loyal once the initial hype dies down.

“(Editors note: The overhead costs of operating a restaurant in New Jersey are considerably lower than those upscale restaurants in New York City. Moreover, the cost of kosher supervision (hashgacha) in New York City is literally double the cost of kosher supervision in New Jersey)”

Perhaps this is true, but Manhattan is expected to be busy year round, not so much on the jersey shore.

If the food is up to par with the prices they will be busy all summer every summer.

So, none.  :(
Are any free after hours, in the evening?
Most beaches are free after hours. You can check online for the individual beach's badge hours.

I'm disgusted by the prices of restaurants
primarily Steak

Each one thinks that they know what they are doing and its outrageous

Appetizers for 30-40 is insane

Main Courses Starting at $80 is insane
I don't mind if your most expensive steak is over $80

but for majority of the entree's to be over $80 is not ok

Burger for over $45 is NOT OK

Mixed Drink for anything over $16 is NOT OK

I used to be able to go out with my wife for $100-200
then it went to $200-$300

I'm not ok spending North of $300 for a couple ESPECIALLY if I'm not blown away by every dish.

Many many people are spending almost $500 for 2 people at some of these Steak Restaurants.
and the few is just ok or great.

problem is too many people are going and feeding the owners idea that it's ok to make a Restaurant look sharp and plate the food nice and decide to give you a smaller portion for a higher price.

agreed.

but problem is there is a social/foodie trend going on

so the cooler you could make it
or the better you can plate it

the more you can charge

and people today are swiping credit cards as appose to paying cash.

I think if everyone had Cash only these restaurants would all be under $200
