New Tablet computer that For 250 or Less

My mother in law wants to get my kids a tablet.  What is the best bang for the buck for a quality tablet (not a kohls no name special).  We need something that is at least somewhat durable as well.  Android or Ipad or Surface is fine.  But we prefer android as everything else we already have is android.

That being said, since I am not that excited about the kids having a tablet due to the unfettered internet access, I am looking for recommendations also on what is most easily locked down.

From my experience with Android its very easy to get around lock down measures.  I dont want to take chances with my kids being exposed to unsavory stuff on the internet.

Nexus 7. But its a smaller screen. Might be good though.

If the screen size works for you the device itself is supposed to be excellent. My only issue with it is the lack of external storage but that is more common nowadays anyways.

i know its very annoying that many of the tablets dont include a memory card slot a la apple

Ipad Mini isn't a bad deal either


Both have smaller screens though.

I would go for a Apple Re-Certified ipad 2 16gb for $319, I know its higher then you wanted to spend but well worth it. IMO
