NYC to NRT in Business, UA or ANA?
« on: December 05, 2012, 03:20:09 PM »
So, i'm planning on flying from NYC to Tokyo in january using US Airways miles. Am trying to decide what is better:
 - UA business first product that has fully lie flat seats - preferable
 - ANA business product that based on my research only appears to be the 170% lie flat recliners - which is not ideal for sleeping.

am hoping to get advice from someone who flew this route before.
many thanks

Based on what you're describing, seems like a no-brainer...

UA has a better seat but the service will be 10x better with ANA

I'd take the better seat if you want to sleep. If you sleep fine on the other go with ANA.

Thank you. I've been comparing it based on the seat alone, but i keep hearing that the ANA service is so much better, and am curious, what exactly makes it so much better?

i find it hard to believe that service in an UA business first cabin will be so bad. But the fully lie flat seats could make quite a difference.

just did a bit more research and it appears that ANA on some days will have a fully lie flat configuration, but other days will have the reclining seats. I guess i just need to book a date with the fully lie flat seats and hope that they won't change equipment on me.

There are two flights a day. One is full lie flat and one isn't

I've done both.  Maybe I am the exception, but I did not find ANA to be much better service.  In the fact the FAs spoke incredibly poor English and it was hard to get anything from them.

AC has given me the best service on this route.  UA's seats are probably the best

For a frum traveler I'd always pick better the seat over an airline known for better service/food.
