Definitely not. A full-fare is a refundable ticket and can easily be 3-4x the price of a discounted coach fare.

I'm not positive, but I don't believe having US Platinum elite status will waive the co-pay.

Okay thanx for your help ajk and everybody else. Ill guess be paying for a regular ticket and then upgrading for 40k + $300.
At least I'll be getting 3 x 50 pound bags for being preferred.

Now I gotta figure out how to do the MR-SPG-US transfer.  Heading over to that thread now.

You generally can't use points to upgrade travel on another carrier.
Also currently you can transfer MR to US at a half-decent ratio thanks to the MR-SPG and SPG-US promotions.
yes u can

I hope this is the right place for my question.

I'm looking to book a domestic flight for the 1st time with UA, from the Yellowstone area ( JAC, BZN, cody, etc.) to DTW in mid June. For some strange reason there is absolutely no saver economy space available, even from SLC and DEN. Can I expect things to open up down the road or is this going to hold?

There is a dedicated thread for award ticket help.
http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=7986.570

But a quick search on united.com shows availability from JAC to DTW on 6/10, 6/11, 6/16 and 6/17.

If I get an award ticket from United's website, but it isn't on United's own planes (rather a partner airline) do I still get the benefits from my United Mileage Plus card? (Like baggage fees, etc)

Thanks

Anyone know how to conduct the following search:

I'd like to find out what the various legal stopovers for *A airlines would be for SIN-NYC.

For example, I know that you can fly:

SQ: SIN-PEK
UA: PEK-EWR

Anyone know a way to find the others?

How often does it happen that award tickets open up within few days of flight?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Quite often its the case that they open up.

I also look @ staralliance.com flight search to see what flies from where to where, and what day of the week, incl what's a valid connection, as well as ideas of available flights you might not have thought of.

Has anyone found availability using Air Canadas sight even though it didn't come up on United?

Of course. Most Swiss flights won't appear on UA

Are the advantages of using other search engines such ANA or AC limited to international flight or also on domestic flights?
