u still can, i dont see a diff between buying them and just owning them. if u would get $800 u could buy morthan 40k mr from anyone
the difference is that I'm not going to spend money on Mr points (thanks to dan) I have loads of those but if I was being offered the chance to chose between them I would go with the points in a jiffy.

For example an enforcement like this:
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/pressreleases/cfpb-orders-american-express-to-pay-85-million-refund-to-consumers-harmed-by-illegal-credit-card-practices/

I can't see them doing this at 2cpp on a cancelled card unless their hand is being forced.
For that don't know what the cfbp is, its a government agency that was created a year and half ago to help people that get screwed by the big banks.

I'm working through them on claim against a bank. So far they've been very helpful,  but it's just the beginning.

That would be awesome, especially if they're giving 2cpp...
now we need to see how to cause this error to repeat

You still don't understand what everyone is saying.  Reread, and then reread again, and then post back  ;)

the value of these points to me are more than 2cpp. Last week I flew from 1 min to the next on a ticket that would have cost me 7k for about 70k Mr points and $350.
And if you wonder why I wouldn't buy from someone else points the reason is that I'm not looking for any sort of trouble etc.

Okay, lets try to make it simple.

You can always buy them at 2 ccp. But you can't always (actually almost never) sell them at 2 ccp.
Do you get it now?

I'm not sure who is confused here  ;) (maybe after a shot of whisky I'm the one) but buying Mr points from amex would cost you at least 2.5

Painful discussion...

You can buy it from any of us for less than 2cpm and transfer it into the account of your choosing.

I think smart brit is saying CMIIAW is to him mr points are worth a lot more then 2cpp since he redeems  them let's say at 6/7cpp for a ticket that cost 7k but he wouldn't spend that so even if he could buy points for 2cpp its still not worth it.(Ex. I don't think most people here would spend 2k on a biz ticket but you would spend 120k ur in a second....you get my drift

Correct but as everyone else here is pointing out, that is only true if you look at the points world as a closed market with limited entry and limited ability to buy points (which is the way I look at it because I don't buy or sell). But if you look at it as an open market because you can always (our very often) buy points at market value (which is closer to 1.55 cpp for MR) then $800 is clearly more valuable
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Maybe Smart Brit is saying its worth   .4 cents more  to have legitimate versus questionable MR to use advantageously for his travels.

In that I would agree . I never pay 1.6 cents or buy any miles but if I could pay 2 CPM and get a RT TATL biz class for 100K effectively $2000  versus $1450 for coach I would do it in a heartbeat .

Plus not risk your longstanding relationship with Amex

Has anyone else received anything similar? What card promo is this referring to?? The only possibility is the Gold Card we opened in my wife's name in May 2011.

Thoughts?

Got one for my wife too. I had tried to get us each a Platinum at 100k and a Gold at 75k. I'm almost 100% certain that we received and used the full 100k on each Platinum. I'm a little more fuzzy on the Gold cards, but it doesn't ring a bell to me that we got less than we were supposed to. Either way, a check for $800 that we weren't expecting is just the sort of Chanukah gelt I think we can all appreciate. ;D

It's a chanukah miracle!

Just got the $800 check,  8)
No clue what card it was for and since my spouse has every card I do , why would only one of us receive the check??

You're the third one! How come I never have $800 checks popping up in my mail?  :-\
If you don't care why would you comment?
