points comparison
« on: December 12, 2012, 11:44:48 AM »
I booked a family member tickets using 200,000 united points of mine. They want to pay me back by selling points that they have.

they have:
85,000 ink blue
93,000 amex gold
114,000 *wood

which points would be of the same value to my 200,000?
should they transfer these points to airlines first to get more value?

200K UA = ~$3400.00

Figure out how you want to do it:

UR = ~1.8-1.9
MR = ~1.6
*W = 2.0-2.2

2015: 116K bkd | 1.6M brnd | F: OZ,NH,AA,EK | J: UA,CA,TK,DL,TN,AF,VA | LIH,NRT,ROR,PEK,CNS,BOB,MEL,TLV & Pacific Hopper

You see that little squiggly line before the $3400.00?

they will be selling the points - would they still get that high for *wood?
also are the ink points same as sapphire? they transfer to airline?

and would it make sense to put lets say *wood first to an airline and then sell that ex. united - - or is the ratio on all these 1:1?

It means around. Meaning around 1.7.

Yes.
Yes.
Definitely does not make sense for UA as ratio is 2:1.

Yes. Yes.
No. Starwood to united is a bad ratio (don't know it offhand). And generally points that are not in any airline are worth more than if put in an airline already.

...except that it's nowhere near 1.3, and is approx 1.7, though highly dependent on amount.

With 200K+ you can get 1.7.  Obviously not from a typical broker you call because they will want to make that spread.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
