I see oh well. Now I just have to figure out what type of bullets to get and from where
Type? .22LR. It’s cheap and “dirty” ammo. Brand not really gonna make much of a difference (especially if you can find bulk boxes).
Regular cost pre covid / if you can find in stock at a store that’s not price gouging is .06-.08 cents per round (500 rd box for $30-$35).

I don't know what dirty means in this context.

Aren't there different types of .22lr (weights and different types of metals)? I'm kind of new to this

Is [Was] this a good price?

Saw this recommended for the Ruger mark IV. McFadden ultimate cliploader. I got it and it's absolutely worth every bit of the $20 it costs. Saves your fingers and a ton of time

check out ammoseek.com
Looks like steel cased 9mm can be had for 33-34 cents per round.
Prices falling rapidly.

Keep in mind most ranges won’t let you use steel cased ammo.

Looking into getting a Ruger AR-556
The issue I'm having is I can't figure out which scope is compatible with it. It has a big front sight I think it's called a A2 sight? Like this
https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/ruger-ar-556-semi-auto-rifle

I found a NJ compliant model for a decent price ($600 plus shipping and transfer fees). But before I buy it I want to make sure it's compatible.
I was thinking of getting this https://palmettostatearmory.com/vortex-cantilever-ring-mount-for-1-tube-w-2-offset-vortex-sonora-4-12x44-riflescope-w-dead-hold-bdc-reticle.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=daily_deals&utm_campaign=20230215&utm_term=afternoon&avad=209111_e33ea1439&utm_source=Avantlink&utm_medium=Referral&utm_campaign=cl

I don't know if that's the best option. I want something that has some zoom to it. And I don't want to spend a fortune

My recollection of dirty was Russian ammo that was literally dirty and required much barrel cleaning after..

Also only applicable for plinking and not self defense

I always here that .22 isn't good for self defense. I find that a bit hard to believe. If the intruder has body armor then ok.

.22 doesnt have stopping power, unless you hit in very specific places. Can people die from it, absolutely, but by the time that happens, its very possible that the person with the .22 is no longer around. .38 is probably the lowest caliber recommended for self defense. Yes a .22 is better then nothing.

How is stopping power tested?

They can shoot them into ballistic dummys and measure their penetration and effect.

They also have a ton of real-world data.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Of course.

I'd highly recommend 9mm for most. Some of the ammo out there is phenomenal and punches above it's weight (pun intended).

Not sure if this is the right place. I live in NJ, looking to become a first time gun owner, can anyone with real world experience tell me how long and complicated the process actually was?

Love it for the range... especially when you couple it with a quality 1911. Bliss.
