with forthcoming merge of united continental, i would assume their ff miles would also merge, so if you are able to get the 30000 miles on the continental cc and the 50000 on the united card all with the first year free, you would have a total of 80000 which is enough for a rountrip usa tlv.

 the Unknown is when will the 2 programs merge into 1, the merge of the 2 Carriers wont probably happen till '11 , and the programs merging will most likely be sometime after the Carriers do. so it can be a yr or more till its all 1 = i wouldnt be counting on being able to get a free tkt anywhere anytime soon if the only way is by combining both ones UA & CO miles together
