Waldorf Astoriia Tower maybe? That costs a ton of points.
Without using too many pts, maybe the best is Doubletree Times Square. The Conrad is new and supposedly nice but it's not in a typical touristy neighborhood.

I got the Conrad for two nights next week at $129 per night for a Deluxe King Suite using Hilton's friends and family sale (1/2 off through January 7th 2013). The Millennium Hilton was also available for $114 per night. The Waldorf was available for a few nights at about $150, but I don't think you will find anymore rooms at the W=A at that rate. You can access the sale here: http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/offers/100040020.htm?WT.mc_id=zCBWAJM0US1HN2REP4ThankYouSale5Thankyou7GW841255

The Conrad is actually owned by Goldman Sachs who's New York office is adjacent to the hotel. When the financial crisis hit, they started forcing employees visiting the NY office to stay there (rather than at the nearby Ritz Carlton or more luxurious digs in midtown). At the time, it was an Embassy Suites. Rumor has it, that the property was revamped and upgraded to a Conrad to assuage the feelings of the bankers who couldn't handle mingling with commoners at the complimentary happy hour over plastic cups of bud-light and chex-mix, or the thought of "only" getting an Embassy Suites. All the rooms there are suites.

I think the OP wants to use Hilton points and not cash.

This is true, but I felt it was worth bringing to the OP's attention that there are some very good rates to be had at some of Hilton's more premium locations in the city that would justify foregoing an award redemption on a single night.

+1, definitely not worth blowing 50k if you can spend $114.

many people accumulate hotel and airline points not to get the best CPM/CPP but because they would otherwise just not go rather than spend the money.
I don't understand why most of the bloggers/ points people don't get that.

But in this case its worth it for him to save his points and use it elsewhere where he cant get such a good deal if paying cash

Yes, using your assumptions in which he is planning multiple trips and planning on paying for at least one of them, I guess you would be right. Are you being serious?

Umm..I could be wrong but I dont think this is his last hotel stay he ever plans on having.  If he could spend his miles elsewhere where they would be worth more it could be he would.

Right. I would never consider a nightout in a luxurious hotel - just for the heck of it - had I have to pay for it.
Just trying to get the most out of it, such as whirlpool, fun, fancy, luxurious, etc....
Thanks all for suggestions.

Because you can sell/barter the points at the higher value.

I guess you can.  Not everyone wants to skirt the rules though (not judging, just saying)

Why is it that when I check the box of "SAVE UP TO 50% THIS HOLIDAY SEASON" the points rate go up?
For example: the Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square South is regular 40k, but withe the promo its 94,920 points?

Neither.  Trade for Hyatt/UR points and stay at the Andaz 5th.
