Either people know where they are and dont want to say because they want it for themselves. Or- there just arent any more in N.Y. area.

What makes u so sure? Most Walgreens that I've visited don't allow you to purchase with cc. It's a big YMMV, depending on store, cashier etc.

is office depot discontinuing (or discontinued already) the reloadable vanilla? I just apploed for another ink card (in addition to one that I have already and was approved (after calling recon)
if the 5x on vanilla is hisstory how do we replace that perk

Ok, not sure how repeatable my approach is, but I went on a witch hunt tonight and got very successful.

I went to the CVS on Nostrand and Kings Highway in Brooklyn. I was told the same shpiel... that they don't accept credit card payment for them. I went back in my car on to the next 24 hour location.... 49th and Kings Highway... this time, I just asked for one... after a little clearing up... and feeding them a story that my location is closed and I always pay by CC, they allowed me to do the same, but this time, they pulled a policy out of their ass that I can only buy 1 500 VR per day. Anyway, I was happy, and figured that I now I was armed with a receipt and a VR card that I went back to location #1, and this time... found 2... went up to counter... argued a little bit... showed them my receipt from #2...fed them the story that their limit is 2 VR for 1000 total per day but that I (miraculously) scored their very last one, and boom... that was enough to clear all hurdle and I booked 2 more.

So there... I feel like I can repeat that over and over again even if only one at a time... it will be VERY difficult for any CVS to come up with a different policy than the next. The Bay Parkway and West 10th st location told me I could only put $100 using CC... so yeah... it's all bs... and all depends on who you land on.

The E 49 and Kings Hway location has plenty of them... the guy hung them up behind the counter... so don't bother looking for them at the gift card section.

The Nostrand and Kings Hway location... I think I may have scored the last 2... took me forever to find thru their messy section, but you can go for it.

NY must be real ball busters. I'm in CA and I bought 4 at once with 2 different CCs at CVS and they could of cared less.

+1, true for all stores in NY. They're just very wary of fraud there as it's so prevalent.

even without vanilla cards is there a downside to purchasing regular visa gift cards to use for regular shopping? I charge at least 1500 a month so I'm thinking to purchase visa cards in office depot to get 5x the points
am I missing something?

Nope. Except that there is a ~1% fee.

So your only losing 2/10 of a percent by using the Vanilla Visa gift cards rather than the reloads.
