Treadmills, what runs, and what does'nt.
« on: May 30, 2010, 07:23:18 PM »
Hi, I see that going to fitness is just not working for me, so I'm considering buying a treadmill.

What should I look at?
The power?
The length and width of the run-surface?
Shock absorbing material?
Is it like a camera, in the sense that only a brand name is accepted?
Please let me know.

Normally finding a cheap one does not really help me, as transport is very difficult, unless, you have some super promo.

Thanks a lot.

Don't even bother buying one. Ask people that own one, and 90% will tell you how much dust theirs is collecting. Try finding a gym partner, that gives you a push to go... Sorry this doesn't answer your question, but its just my two cents...

I've heard such comments before.

I'm usually a guy that doesn't take on new things, but when I do, I'm persistent.

A partner for the gym is difficult, as my hours tend to change.
I tried buying a second hand one, but no one wanted to sell: maybe they all think that one day they will start using it again...?

Maybe I should place an add?

that's exactly it! nobody will sell a treadmill, it doesn't look to good

I know in lkwd there is a sears outlet were they sell brand new machines with like smashed up boxes for 1/2 price, u can get a great deal there, that's were mine is from & of course its NEVER used.
I don't know if they have these stores anywhere else but u can check. (arent u in israel, don't know if this will help)

I'm in europe, but what are the specs of your machine, and price?
Here I have to pay at least $1,000 for something decent.

Is there craigslist for Europe? That's the best place probably.

Thanks for the advice.
Now if I want to buy one, be it second hand, what to look for? And what to avoid?

If you are 245 lb + pounds look for at least 3.0 "Continuous" Horse Power motor. The key is the "continuous" part. This ensures that when you step on the treadmill it won’t stutter or stop, due to your excess “girth”.

Assuming you don’t have enough $ to purchase a professional machine; keep checking pro-form’s website. At times they have weekly deals that are great! I would purchase a service plan as well.

Not at 245lb yet, but working on it.

saw a couple of machines, didnt see the word continuous on it, and most had 1.8-2 hp.

I also saw that some need you to oil them, and some not.

Does it use a lot of power, ie, in the sense that its worth dragging in a cable from the street lights?

thanks and regards to Mendy
