Do you trust TripAdvisor?
« on: December 18, 2012, 10:34:58 PM »
I have never trusted TA, mostly because someones 5 star hotel can be someone else's 3 star hotel and vice versa, but it seems that there are more reasons:

I always figured ratings are a relative thing. For someone use to staying a 3* hotels, any 5* hotel well be 'amazing'

I use TZ all the time, but you need to use your senses! Their forum is phenomenal and very helpful. Just try the Israeli forum and allot of questions are answered there rather good and quickly!  Their hotel reviews you need to read thru them thoroughly as some of the complaints are ridiculous and some are fake. If you read thru them you can weed out the stupidity ("I will only give it one star cause the eggs at breakfast where cold") or reviews that all of a sudden pump or bad mouth a location all with users that have no reviews, just joined and all in the same short period. (that goes with any review web site)

Regarding star ratings on class of hotel (NOT TA's REVIEW RATING) Platinum Guy said it accurately!

In Israel allot of places are very sensitive to TA and actually advertise "check or rating" or ask you to leave positive feedback if you where happy!

I will not go to a hotel without it being approved by trip advisor reviewers. I have found them to be pretty accurate. You just have to go through the reviews and make sure they are commenting on the rooms and service and not on the food and waiters!!

I like the TA room tips. I also use common sense and find it very useful.

I prefer hotel.com ratings, and such which allow only rating after paying for a room, however, TA has much more info and many more places. if there are a bunch of reviews, you could trust them, but make sure to read what they consist.
