I'd think that should be divided into two separate questions in two separate threads, with "do you believe in them" going into "just shmooze".

Do vitamins have to be kosher or are they in the category of medicine?

I agree about it being divided into two questions!

1. If vitamins work is way to general as a  long time vitamin user i firmly believe that YES they do work, however that doesn't mean that all vitamins work it depeneds on the vitamin, quality etc etc....

2. If it has to be kosher, it really depeneds on who you ask my opion is even if your rabbi does not require you take kosher vitamins it is better to take them since it has the benifit that the facility is having random inspections (for kosher certification) or have someone all the time to make sure the company does not add anything that is not on the bottle so you know what you are getting.

I personally shop at koshervitamins.com I found over the years they have the best prices, low or free shipping and if you need help with what vitamins to take the customer service there is great! Also with kosher certification they state clearly if the item is certified kosher and who certifies it (so you have a reliable certification).

The question is very ill defined. How do you define "Working" for a vitamin? Vitamins aren't meant to treat specific conditions, rather to fill in deficiencies in your diet and promote overall health.

That is correct but what you are describing is a multi vitamin there are some specifically for different "condiitons" like- Glucosamine that helps with the joints by taking that and feeling better shows me that my body absorbed it and so it "works"

I can only answer vis-a-vis kosher ones.
IMHO/FWIH, you'll get the most value and best quality combined, from Solgar and Blue Bonnet.  Their top notch  quality is undisputed, ask any nutritionist well versed in today's vitamins.

There are cheaper kosher brands out there, but their quality is terribly inferior.  Maxi is one example  that comes to mind.

There are no shortage of more expensive ones too, but I assume, saving money is on your agenda too.

???
Why would it be the "way to go" if its "not cheap"?
Legit?  As opposed to what?
My local pharmacy is all a farce?

You really got me scratching my head.

I am asuming by legit you mean that the companies they carry are good qualiy not like other products you sometime buy online that you don't know where its coming from.

Actually if you compare prices online I have found the Koshervitamins does come out a little cheaper then other online retailers and has a larger selection then most local pharmacies. Also as to why you would shop in kosher vitamins even if it does come out a few cents more is because they ship to you (if you are in the NY, NJ area UPS usally arives the next day!) and my opion is when you speak to someone there they actually care about what works for you, and dont just recomened the most expensive supplement they have.

Of course consult your own Rav but my LOR said that if they are taken as a preventative measure than they are not like medicine and need a hechsher in contrast if they are taken to alleviate symptoms or to remove them than they would be akin to medicine

I don't know of you're affiliated with the said website, but when I compare to local stores, they come out way more expensive.

I'm on DD to $ave dough...
I'm not locked up, b"h I go to brick and mortar stores, delivery is not important for something like (as light as) vitamins

As far as nutritional advice, there's so much available these days, and every other pharmacy offers a nutritionist on staff as well.
in contrast if they are taken to alleviate symptoms or to remove them than they would be akin to medicine
And IIRC, even so, it would still depend, and many still require a hechsher.  Think something like Tylenol etc..

+1 koshervitamins.com is more expensive, and user Kosher Consumer seems to be affiliated with them.
