Bullion: When to Buy, When to Sell, & What to Buy
« on: December 19, 2012, 08:30:22 PM »
My understanding is that silver dropped to $30 an oz today.

http://silverprice.org/

Now silver was hovering around $35 in the last few months.

There is speculation, that due to the fiscal cliff, commodities are lower.

Even gold is now down to $1650.

Now for a quick buck I don't think it is worthwhile to be busy buying and selling in a month.

However as an investment, would you consider now a good time to buy.

Bear in mind that you never get the price that the market is holding, rather $1-$2 above spot.

Take these Engelhard 100 oz bars http://www.apmex.com/Category/1188/Engelhard_Silver_Bars.aspx

They were selling for $3500+ a few weeks ago.

Any thoughts?

I thought a fiscal cliff is a reason for the price of Gold to rise, not fall

I think that's only if they don't make a deal. If they do make a deal (and the commodities market seems to indicate that they will), it may go down even more.

There is no guarantee the price of gold will ever rise

Once we're stating general truths, I got one:

Just because a commodity goes down in price doesn't mean you can't make money.

Here are some facts as well:

In 1970 Sliver hit $50 an oz
4 years ago Silver dropped as low as $15 an oz
A month ago Silver was $38
Today its hovering in the $29 range and dropping.

Will it hit $50 in the next year, prob not.

Will it hit $37+ this year probably.

Were one to buy 100 oz @ $2800 and sell @ $3800 he make $1000.

Is there a thread around here about the best savings accounts around these days?
Looking to put away 5K in a way that will minimize devaluation due to inflation, be minimal maintenance, and allow it to be accessible as I don't know when I'll need it.
Buy 200 oz of silver.

I couldn't agree more. With Silver down another 43 cents on Friday & now at $22.21. I believe it could go lower but I did manage to catch a nice amount at $22.13. So hopefully I will win nicely. Good thinking.
