Don't really have a choice, the permits sell out wayyyyy in advance as there are only 60 slots per night.  The weekend (the 15th-17th) is already fully booked.

Worse case scenario at this point is losing a few bucks for the permit.  Which can be easily scalped from what it seems based on craigslist demand.

Kalalau can be done in a couple days.  And besides for the most stunning hike you've ever taken you'll also learn how to take better pictures.

Depends on a lot of factors.

Just a possible itin though even just Kalalau would be good enough for me:
Sunday, arrive in LIH, start trail and camp at Hanakoa.
Monday, hike to Kalalau Beach and camp the night.
Tuesday, hire a boat to take us back to civilization.  Fly to KOA, find a bootleg volcano tour to the current eruption.
Wednesday fly home? 4WD to Green Sands Beach, Waipio Valley, Mauna Kea 4WD routes, etc?
Might also be fun to take the 4WD road in Waimea to look down to Kalalau.
