Not sure really.

Maybe:
Arrive Sunday night into LIH.
Get boated into Kalalau on Monday morning with camping gear, grill, food, etc.
Camp at Kalalau Monday night.
Hike to Hanakoa and camp there Tuesday night.
Hike out Wednesday and fly home Wednesday night.

Hiking it one way is cheating?  How so?  You really looking forward to lugging all your photo gear rt?

As for me, even if I wanted DW would never let me run off on my own.

What's the issue?
Do you really think we're going to have more than 3 people for this?
I could only find 1 sucker to come with me to ROR and that was with some kicking, dragging, and screaming.

LIH is closer than ROR, wayyyy less of an investment, both in time and in miles, and requires less... "crazy."

Kalalau is crazier than the island hopper IMHO. Cheaper, but are that many people in a grueling camping trip?
