We debated it, but as far as my passport is concerned I have a stamp from an African country and that's enough for me until I made to CPT or Victoria Falls, etc.

People: There has to be a boat involved. You can't go to Antarctica and see it just by plane. Boats go close to shore, icebergs, penguins etc. you also can't exactly drive around Antarctica. Not too many gas stations if you know what I mean.

You can fly there and then do the excursions by boat. From a halachic perspective that is probably the easiest way to do it, as going on a cruise would likely be a logistical nightmare with kosher and shabbos.

You are probably thinking of southafrica...

no. it was discussed that taba is not in africa, and that egypt has parts in africa as well as asia (the city of istanbul is actually split between asia and europe)

not sure why everyones worried about finding seats, really?  cmon, be creative, people are coming from different places and people could take different routes. if you're willing to survive enough traveling time there's always something open.

Semi non-sequitur here, but all the Antarctica talk reminded me of a fantastic series I recommend to everyone: BBC's Frozen Planet (the UK version with David Attenborough, not the crap version for US tv). And especially the episode about humans living in Arctic and Antarctic regions, I think it was the 6th episode, The Last Frontier. They spent a fair amount of the episode on the Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station, which is this amazing year round research station.
