Wouldn't cost much, just the miles to get there and a few bucks for permits.  I'd kick in some miles for ya :)

Anyone game? Summer 2014?
I'm in. Just need to work out a date.

August it is :)

Who else is up for a photography class/camping trip on the greatest hike along the prettiest mountain range to the greatest beach in North America? Oh yeah, on the greatest island in the world :D
Any more superlatives I left out?
Maybe we would hire a bootleg boat to take us out of the Kalalau Valley after a night or 2 and then skip over to the big island for a bootleg photo trip to the bleeding edge of an erupting volcano.

And be back home for shabbos.

Wow. A few days in August 2014 are already completely booked!
They only have 60 permits/night available.

With this beach being the starting point of the Kalalau Trail, I don't think any superlatives are necessary :D.

Sounds great! How many days are we talking about?

Does a winter trip to Hawaii make more sense than summer?

And just out of curiosity how many of you have wives who have never been to Hawaii but would be ok with you going without her?

What I'm thinking is combining it with a regular vacation - 2 or so days instructing and the rest with my wife (and possibly daughter - I may not be able to leave her).

ETA - No, I will not have the baby along while shooting :D (unless we need an extremely cute model ;)).

Winter is rainy season and at times that can close off the Kalalau trail (and Polihale access for that matter) completely.

Other than that the main advantage of winter is to escape from the east coast's winters!

DDF Wives DO at the GHK or SRP ;)

Have you considered doing a bootleg volcano trip on the big island at all?
