Depends on a lot of factors.

Just a possible itin:
Sunday, arrive in LIH, start trail and camp at Hanakoa.
Monday, hike to Kalalau Beach and camp the night.
Tuesday, hire a boat to take us back to civilization.  Fly to KOA, find a bootleg volcano tour to the current eruption.
Wednesday fly home? 4WD to Green Sands Beach, Waipio Valley, Mauna Kea 4WD routes, etc?
I think i may be able to "get free" for a few day trip. Anything any longer will be a lot harder to get an ok for.

So my status is tentative.

Would you do just Kalalau or would you also want to try to get a volcano trip in?

Would really like to get a volcano trip in, but i guess it really depends on what the final itinerary would be. Need to know how many flowers/chocolates i should get to make it happen for me.

Lol. Might take more than flowers and chocolate. Though if you're actually inviting your wife I can't see why that isn't a big enough incentive.

Wait till United or American has a deal with 800-flowers or the like for 30 or so miles per dollar with your purchase.  ;)

Not sure if she would be coming.

I wouldn't consider this trip a Hawaii trip, more like a photography trip that happens to be in Hawaii.

Might also be fun to take the 4WD road in Waimea to look down to Kalalau.

All this sounds really amazing, but...

- I don't think there's any way I could go to Hawaii without my wife :-\
- I can't take off from work twice in the summer, so I can't go just to teach and then go with my wife as a separate trip
- Most importantly, I'm still trying to figure out how to pay for this - I'm still in 'points debt' from the Alaska trip. So again, I'd I go, it'll have to be a vacation for us too.

For me (at this point) the best option would be a couple days teaching and the rest if the time vacationing.

So now I'm all confused :P. Help!

What's the problem? a few days teaching, then spend a few days after vacationing.

If you would have bought that when you could have gotten 30 miles/$ at Nordstroms this trip would have basically been paid for.

How long can you get away without the kid?
With 9 days you should be able to keep her happy even if you're missing for 2 in Kalalau in the middle of your trip.
At a minimum the volcano hike can definitely be for couples...

Is it kid/stroller friendly? Or not doable?

Except that Hawaii is within reach, while Antarctica is really only a pipe dream at this point.

Pipedream??

You mean I've been in contact with all these cruise companies and negotiating for nothing?

Hmm..
Work is what you do between vacations.
