During a power outage you cannot use your solar panels to energize your house
Especially if you live in places like FL with frequent power outages.

Interesting, frequent power outages aren't an issue where I live so that aspect never occurred to me. Must be annoying to live somewhere that the power goes out frequently enough for outages to be top of mind.

Any updated thoughts on getting solar panels? Anyone know anything about power purchase contracts to eliminate all costs to home owner?

Anybody know if there are currently any Govt incentives (Brooklyn, NY) to get solar panels on my roof? Or have any experience or know costs & other things to consider would love to hear some input.

I'm in the process of setting up solar now.

The tax incentives in NY make it a no brainer. Also the other good thing is if you want to replace your roof they can roll it into the cost of the solar project which would make it then eligible for all of the tax incentives.

Here is an example of the tax breaks

System cost - 40k
Federal Tax Credit - 26%
NYS One Time Tax Credit - 5k
Property tax credit 8k split over 4 years

Once you factor in all of the credits the system is about 16.5k

The amount can be financed at a very low rate (about 1% for a 20 year term)

Assuming your panels produce more KwH than you consume your Coned bill would only be $18 monthly (the connection fee).

Please note the tax incentives above are only if you are purchasing the system.

I got quotes from a bunch of different companies, did a lot of research.

If you want more info please PM me.

You don't think it's worth it to wait a few months to see what incentives the Biden administration will try and get passed?

At this point the only talk is of increasing the tax credit to 30% but that didnt even come from Biden himself.  If they increase the tax credit this year you would get it regardless.  Also, in some areas certain tax incentives are most definitely going down, so not worth waiting speculatively in my opinion.  For instance the NYSERDA in rockland and NYC will be going down soon.

Are there any issues putting panels on an older roof? What happens if you need to repair or replace the roof?

Also what are the current incentives in NJ?

I would not recommend putting solar panels on a roof you expect to replace within a few years. The cost of removing the solar panel to replace the roof is just not worth it.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.
