Similar to the head of OSU, a massive publicly financed college in OH, making nearly $1MM/year.  People made an uproar about it but the fact is he personally bring in his salary many times over in donations.
It makes sense (and likewise, I still wouldn't give $ to these orgs). I'm just wondering if this is actually on paper. Meaning is it clear how much the highly paid executive is bringing in, or is it just how much is coming in to the org overall which justifies his salary?

Sorry, i doubt any serious donors to YU lurk on these forums
It's specifically the 'not so serious' donors who give $50, $100, $180 etc. who would be disappointed to find out how much the president of YU is making.  There are many people who are not loaded with cash and squeeze their wallets for the orgs that ask for money...

How so true that is, great observation.

this is always a tough question - take for example Purim ppl spend thousand to have nice limos while they go collecting - the money  comes off the charity. On the other hand if they didn't have the limo they probably wouldn't try to raise money for the charity...

I've become selective in who I give to. When I see and org making an extremely extravagant Chinese auction, I feel my money would be used better elsewhere. I'm not totally against it, but I feel my money could get better use at places with less overheard.

This site looks pretty interesting: http://www.charitynavigator.org

How can it be accurate?
Like they know what goes on in some basement-run organization in BP?

Isn't this stuff all public record?

That's my point, it's what's "official", and I'd think that the said website gets their info from public record.

What really goes on can be a whole other story.. CMIIW.

Made me think of the infamous Kupat Ha'ir.
It's not their advertising (full color glossy inserts) in and of itself which is bothersome to most, I think.

It is the content of their propaganda.  If only they understood that.

The problem is that it's (i) so easy to use "overhead" as a barometer because it's an easily calculable measurement, and (ii) so hard to evaluate whether or not an organization is reaching it's "google, amazon" type goals.

He's right, but unfortunately, it's not the practical reality.

Made me think of the infamous Kupat Ha'ir.
It's not their advertising (full color glossy inserts in national [Jewish] newspapers, consisting of many pages mostly describing - not their charitable work - rather the miracles and wonders you are guaranteed to receive in return) in and of itself which is bothersome to most, I think.

It is the content of their propaganda (partially described above).  If only they understood that.

Did you hear about the guy suing Kupat Ha'ir? He accidentally pushed 3 instead of 2 and is now pregnant...

His idea applies to governmental institutions as well, but with such institutions, as well as charitable institutions, mass corruption would be bred.
