Any more recent info? NameCheap.com seems to me very cheap on .rentals domains and provides free privacy FWIU. Any disadvantages?

Any solid competitors out there?

For the first year you can probably get cheaper, but I've switched out all my domains to Google a while back.

That was my point most of these companies catch your eyes the first year and keep you in the trap in with higher rates the coming years vs google is straight forward 12 a year

If you need privacy then Google is a no brainer even for year 1. And if you're time is worth anything to you it can take a phone call or two plus an email IME to change...

Others such as namesilo give free privacy. Not using privacy odds a great way to get lots of spam.

Google also gives you free unlimited domain aliases.
