it was for an expensive item... Buyer was arrested a while back and I'm too nervous about losing my money by getting screwed by ebays buyer protection.

Make sure your item is covered for the full value.
Also check the address on Google Maps  to see what it is.

what do you mean by "covered for the full value" ? How does that help me if buyer claims he didn't get what I sent and Ebay will almost always side with the buyer... There is no real definitive way to prove I sent him the right item...

I believe ebay has a cap on how much they cover.
If you have his signature, and the weight matches what you said it was, IIRC it was mentioned upthread that ebay should side with you.
If you don't want to deal with it, cancel the sale and block him.

When I sell on eBay, I usually don't charge for shipping. I usually offer standard shipping (2-6 days) but it comes out too expensive. What's a cheaper way to ship in the save amount of time? Tia

It depends on the size of the item. If they are small, (13 ounces it less) the cheapest is first class mail. How big are the items you're referring to?
