The ultimate list of closed PIT kosher eateries...

These kosher restaurants, bakeries, and ice cream stores in and around Squirrel Hill have all closed in the time since I went to high school there:
1. Leibel's
2. King David
3. Yacov's
4. Simple Treat
5. Platters
6. Golden China
7. Meating Place
8. Sari's
9. Susheli
10. Cafe M
11. Pinati's
12. Rolladin
13. Mordy's Cafe at the JCC
14. Sweet Tammy's on Murray
15. Sweet Tammy's at the JCC
16. Sweet Tammy's in Larimer
17. Aaron and Ari's.
18. Milky Way Oakland/Campus.
19. Grilliance (now open for take out every Tuesday. Email order 1 day in advance to: grilliance1@gmail.com)
20. Phil and Bills Ice Cream

Leaving Milky Way and the Giant Eagle Bakery in Squirrel Hill as the sole survivors...

Is there really nowhere decent to eat in Pittsburgh? How far from Pittsburgh to the Cleveland restaurants?
There's absolutely nowhere decent in Pittsburgh anymore.  Just an extremely mediocre pizza shop.
Cleveland's kosher restaurants are a 90-125 minute drive away depending on where in PIT you are.

That's a shame, sounds even worse than Dallas. I'll be staying in Squirrel Hill (with one night at the Airport Hyatt Regency). But we do have a relative coming from University Heights...maybe they can get us s/t to go

PIT Airport is 100 minutes to the CLE restaurants.  Squirrel Hill is about 2 hours.

Sweet Tammy's was open last Thursday...
Apparently Sweet Tammy's is now only open to the public on Fridays.

i guess the same reason there was a bakery rosenbergs that wasnt kosher, but visitors didnt realize bec of the name - it ended up burning down.

what happened to the bakery on murray ave. (was that called simple treats and closed down?) that was a great memory of my childhood!!!!

rita's ices was a great memory of high school

dan u forgot in ur list of past restaurant - the meating place and then the one the fakiros opened up in the same place when it closed down (b4 the meating place there was a not kosher restaurant that also didnt make it very long)

i havent been back to the pitts in 8 years so it would be interesting to see how murray ave changed (koshermart?, prime kosher?, pinskers?)

Sorry, that was just the Clevelander in me.  We're not allowed to say anything positive about our smoky neighbor 2 hours to the east...

-National Aviary is an interesting bird museum that kids would love.
-Monongahela Incline is a cable car that climbs up a steep hill to the top of mt washington with amazing views of the city.
-Ducky Tour is a lot of fun for kids (and even adults!)
-PNC Park is a gorgeous ballpark, one of the finest in MLB.
-Carnegie Science Museum is always a hit with kids.
-Rita's water ice in Squirrel Hill is great.
-Rivers Casino provides entertainment options for adults.

Thanks :) I don't think my little 2 year old will appreciate a science museum but the cable car and aviary sound interesting...

A 2 year old would probably love the ducky tour as well.  And the science museum does have a great play zone will plenty of opportunity for a 2 year old to have a blast (and get soaked!)
