i was responding to the lady who asked for someone to take in an iphone 5, which has a value above the allowance, and need to be declared and paid for.
Does rots really give off that impression?   ;D

WOW. Do I wish there were diamonds seen into my old navy still in packages items of clothing. But nope. Just some kids clothing for the brutal winter over here  :). Glad we got off topic and decided to post all the dangers of smugglers duping us. I forgot that was an issue. Thanks all for your enlightening words and I shall continue to search for someone so my kids can get the stuff before the winter is over.

Only if you are not taking it out of the country with you when you leave.

Duh....and one iPhone proves what?!? Its prob yours in my mind -  Menucha, how many times have u been in and out of this country?!? U sound childish and a little skewed - u think no one comes into the country with cameras valued over 200$?!?! Since u obviously have no class at all - what about my תפילין?!?!? I never declared Ny of it. What about the 10k cash rule as well do u have to declare that. So pls stop before ur ahead. Hope i clarified the misconception that might be building up.

your used Tefilin and a smuggled brand new iphone - what a comparison.

your used socks also do not required to be declared at customs.

rots - Sorry, I usually agree with you, but not here.

If they catch you bringing in an iphone they will charge you. Even if it is only one. Obviously we are not referring to one that is on your belt.It is considered tax invasion. And it is a crime.

My brother brought in to israel a few CCTV Cameras, a DVR, and 2 monitors  all valued under $750. For himself. His luck they pulled him over and gave him a rough time. They made him pay a knas and high taxes. The same can happen with an iphone.

no no everyone i know what menucha is saying but its ok to bring one in not in a box! i never said anything specific i just need my phone its already paid for with an upgrade 40$ and its not called anything if its out of the box - i thik i know this bec i GOT caught bringing in an imac when i forst came (obviously i didnt really know) bec i wast trying to ide a 33 inch box but i left the recipt in the door and it showed it was personal use so of course i had to pay 800 shek for the VAT and then another 800 shek bec of a knas - i know how thinese things work. then while he ws going thru all my stuff he saw my 700$ camera NOT IN THE BOX BUT IN THE CARRYING CASE and he also saw the 10k that i brought in for a kollel and he didnt say anything so yes you are all right but just like my tefilin they wont knas me so they wont one phone not in the box!

and p.s . i dont mind being wrong but ive asked ppl in high places about the laws here and if im wrong then kol hakavod i can accept

though there is another law that is very vague here in IL that technically you have to declare ur items and then get the money bvack when u return thru VAT but most ppl in the airport dont know or care for that and its very not common anymore bec no one really knows the law so they let any personal items thru and all closed or tagged items are knassed

Judging by how vague it is ("no one knows the law" etc.) i would assume its a YMMV

attention all smart guys who want to smuggle and bring for someone else a new iphone-box or not, custom laws are publicly published.
if you follow all "smart guys" advice or tefilin analogy, read Japan story.

I'd be hard pressed to find a "smart guy" who says bringing drugs to japan is a smart thing to do.
