What does a family do if not going to FL?  Seems like everyone goes south. I can't find anything in the NY metro area, that remotely appeals to me or my kids.  And no cheap tix to FL.  :-[

Stay home. Tour NY.

Or head to a fun hotel nearby with a waterpark?
Or pick a city nearby to drive to.

Sigh, my older kids don't want to do "cold" things.

Sky 121, do you know of one aside from Great Wolf?

If you don't mind driving a good couple of hours there are quite a few.
Or what about a road trip?

What do you recommend in Pilly?

Great science museum. The state penitentiary is really cool.

Not sure how far you want to go, but Washington DC is always a great place to go. Museums on the Mall are also free. There's a lot away from the Mall as well. There's a place called the Newseum which is incredible. There's so much to see there that the tickets are good for two days. On the way from NY there's a beautiful aquarium. If you need it - shuls and kosher food. We loved it there. Oh, and the Holocaust Museum. Tons to do there. Reasonable places to stay in places near Silver Spring, etc.
Philly was very nice as well, a shorter trip, but I'm not sure it's a mutiple day trip.

Thanks for all the tips, but my needs are too varied.  Older and younger kids, so nothing works for all.  Museums maybe ok for older and water parks may be ok for younger.  FL was nice, but not in the cards right now.  Oh well.

With that age group I still feel Washington has something for everyone. The Newseum itself covers every age group, something for everyone, even you adults. I cannot stress enough what a great place that is. We went there on Pesach and were looking for drinks. One of the heads of the dining area asked what we need. We explained Pesach restrictions and she went and brought us all (us, kids, grandkids) water bottles - Poland Spring. One of the museum personnel mentioned to us that there was a 911 exhibit and it's incredible, as if you were there. I explained to him I was a first responder over there (Hatzoloh Paramedic) and the building fell on us and he went into shock. The aquarium on the way was very nice too. By the way I am very far from being a museum goer but the American Museum of History was plain WOW. Then again, from NY its a good four hours.

Dumb article.  Yearning for the days of yore instead of recognizing how much more we can accomplish today thanks to the internet.
