OneWorld award question.
« on: June 03, 2010, 05:16:55 PM »
My friend would like to book award travel originating from Tel Aviv, going to Buenos Aires. He would like to stop over in Amsterdam and possibly in New York as well, finally returning to Tel Aviv.

What would be the preferred order of flights in order to fly the least amount of distance?

Is there any kind of chart online or online calculator where I can see the amount of miles flown from one place in the world to another?

Thanks.

Unless he gets those miles for free, and as many as he wants, Id ask what needs the least miles to achieve that.

I would suggest flying via london to buenos aires, and if this flight still exist, via new york a flight to ams with ba (directly from ny to ams), travel on your own means to london, and from there a return to tlv.

(hopefully they allow flying via the usa)

The reason I asked the question that way is because with OneWorld award it depends on total miles flown to define the amount of AA miles needed to travel.

I believe its more of a LAN thing.

Obviously even AA has a limit, but usually its not a problem.

The AA OneWorld chart is distance based.
Use http://www.gcmap.com for distances.

You're mixing up the partner chart and the OneWorld chart.

can you explain?

Say A certain distance in first class requires 105k miles, but is allowed to travel a max of say 20k miles.

So rarely would they tell me that its invalid because the route chosen is too long.

You can use whichever chart you prefer.
Note that the partner chart allows you to use any partner airline (including El Al) whereas you can only use Oneworld carriers on the Oneworld chart.

Note, when using Oneworld chart you must use (2) Oneworld carriers besides AA.
In some instances it is less miles to use the Oneworld chart but the above restriction apply.

Also when using the OneWorld chart you do not have 3rd region routing restrictions, which you do have with the partner award chart.
