Avis or Herz. If your careful you can save alot more than corp codes/coupons!!

I had just spent an embarrassing amount of time looking for good rentals for my trip to Miami. I was beginning to look at the cheaper brands like budget and dollar. Then I noticed, that by changing the begin time of the rental to MORE time the price goes down big time on Avis. Herz was similar, but I didn’t spend as much time looking at all the different times.
With Avis (MIA), if I rent on 1/13 at 2:30pm (3 days) with no coupons or corp code added, rates start at 53.18 for 3 days with “pay now”. Now get this, it’s a lot cheaper to rent for four days than it is to start the rental AFTER 2:30pm. That my friends, makes no sense. It probably has something to do with weekend rates but it just seems to be too big of a price difference.
I just hope I won’t have problems because I’m only going to be picking up the car at 9pm instead of 2:30pm. It wouldn’t make sense that I should but this whole thing make no sense. Maybe I’m missing something as I'm no expert. If so, please show me where I went wrong. Thanks

Did you try adding a AWD on top of that?

@elikay Where should i have put it? I didn't see any other obvious place. This was not specific to Avis, Herz was similar. Maybe others too?

@hocker I tried a lot of different ones from the Avis master thread but i never saved a penny over the "pay now" rate.

Starting a rental a different time to change the price I only saw in the USA (thanks dealer), but same day (or next day) rental I've seen is sometimes retardedly more expensive than a rental starting in 2 days.

So 2.5 weeks ago I looked into renting from germany. Starting the next day, 4 days was more expensive than starting 2 days later for 2 weeks...
You also have those blocks of days, say some places 6 or 7 days will be the same price, as its a weekly, etc.

I just priced it again on Avis. Here are screenshots. And again Herz also had this discrepancy, although the difference wasn’t as wild. It was around $118 to $185. I didn’t check any other agency’s for this discrepancy.

I actually spoke to a Hertz agent yesterday regarding a reservation, and he told me that rates change at noon. Not always is there a difference but if it changes in middle of the day noon will be the cutoff point.
