Isn't that a bit extreme?
Are you at least feeling better now?

For someone who doesn't have money to burn, the prospect of being out $800 isn't a very pleasant feeling. I wouldn't call that extreme.

There is a difference between not being a pleasant feeling and feeling sick.
Sick is the way I felt at 3 AM last night after barfing my brains out

You're nit picking.

His use of "sick" is a common and accepted colloquialism.

So you thought based on that if you booked at 11pm you'd have until 9pm because there was 46 hours in my example?

Yes, now that we know the central time zone I can clarify it next time.
No. I saw you pointed out till 11pm est, so i knew that was davka , but didnt realise that 1am was on purpose.

On another note, 11 pm est is 10pm central. I wonder why 10pm is their cutoff? Delta on the other hand gives you until midnight the next day, im assuming thats est based on atlanta

Well then why did you assume it was 46 hours??

I didn't assume. It WAS 46 hours. And thats been noted many times on the site. I guess if I had thought about it enough I would have realized that from 12 AM my time until 10Pm the next day central time was actually 47 hours. But I didn't. And I paid $130 so that you all could know it.

Gn!

It is only 46 hours if you buy at 1am, I never said 46 hours besides for that situation.

Either way you can still fight it as I told you.

The post for that deal says there are free cancellations until 11pm ET. So I booked it at 12:05 AM on Nov 26 expecting to be able to cancel it until Nov 27 at 11. I didn't realize I needed to wait until 12 AM central time because there is no indication that it's necessary. That all.

I'm not blaming you at all, Dan. It was an unclear T&C. I very much appreciate all you do!

Exactly why you should file a chargeback.

Not at all. Although, I think once you've already agreed to a settlement you are ineligible to charge back. Please CMMIW

Update: I spoke to a Chase Rep and she is going to file a dispute. Interestingly, she said that as soon as I fill out the paperwork, because the airline agreed to a 75% refund, Chase is going to cover the remaining 25%.

Finally the banks are giving back!   ;D

Thanks everyone for the input.

Update:

Remember this? Well, I disputed the charge and my bank said it was all taken care of. Then, today I got this email form Orbitz:

"Dear Yehuda S,

We received notification from TAM Airlines that you disputed a charge in the amount of $135.50 on your Visa Card ending in **** for the purchase of airline tickets made on Orbitz.  Details of this trip are summarized below:

Orbitz Record Locator: ------------------
Boarding From:  New York
Destination:  Buenos Aires
Airline:    TAM Airlines
Departure Date:  April ------------
Traveler/s:  -----------------------------------

TAM Airlines  is now seeking payment from Orbitz for this trip, therefore, it is imperative that I speak with you.  Please contact me at the phone number listed below within 3 business days.

If you wish to pay by check, please remit to:
Orbitz
Credit Card Dispute Department
500 W Madison Street
Suite 1000
Chicago IL 60661

Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
If you have already spoken with us via phone or email regarding this matter, please disregard this letter.

Sincerely,

Sally...."

I called them. They said if I don't pay up within 3 days it's going to a collection agency. I told her I thought this was settled by the Bank and she said this has nothing to do with the bank and I better pay up.

Any ideas?

Nope, I mean I didn't think you had a claim in the first place, but being that you thought you did (and the bank agreed with you), why not?

I had an excellent claim!

The site said I have until 10pm the next day and I purchased my tickets at 12:05 AM. Thus I should have had 45 hours and 55 minutes to cancel.

However, the site failed to mention that the purchase time gets calculated by central time even if I am in New York. Therefore I may have bought it on Wednesday but since in Central time it was still Tuesday the only gave me 22 hours instead of 46.

In any event, if my bank said it was settled, my question is: Is it their responsibility to work it out with orbitz?

We're not arguing whether you had a claim (it's not relevant and we'll agree to disagree). Question is the best choose of action now. What is wrong with what I suggested?
