I have to switch to a good touchscreen phone...
« on: January 09, 2013, 07:49:48 AM »
I'm using currently a Nokia C5 just for calls, and a Blackberry 9790 for messaging and emails.

I started getting recently more and more pain in my thumbs (joint), so I will need to switch to touchscreens which put close to zero-pressure.

Messaging is very important to me as well as emailing.

Battery needs to be good.

Not sure what would be the best...

I'm looking at everything except the price for now.

Suggestions were: note 2, iphone...

if typing is your biggest concern I would advise you to first test out the Swype method as that is using the least movements. Then you can decide between android and ios

I'm using the HTC One X and I'm very happy with it. (although battery life isn't the best)
You could also wait for the BlackBerry 10...

This swype is a new mussag to me.

Dunno anyone with it. Is it good?

Does it also work well when adding foreign words in a sentence ?

Will need to keep blackberry just for customers, but I stopped having illusions in it.

Having had a touchscreen phone now for a very long time, I yearn for a return of BB style keyboard.  Sorry, with swype, I still never got used to the touchscreen keyboard.  IMHO you're not missing anything vis-a-vis your fingers.

IMHO, correct.  It may be a 'change' for a bit, but as @jkhein also said....

Although I'm sure others (like Dan) disagree.

Swype may be just what you're looking for. Much less repetitive lifting action.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Galaxy Nexus or S3.
Note is just too big for me, but if your hands and pocket can handle it then go for it.

Battery life on any touchscreen phone isn't good enough for travelers, so I travel with spare batteries. That eliminates phones like Nexus 4, Razr, iPhone, etc.

So what's left?

Android ?

To clarify my first message: blackberry doesn't seem proficient in their touch functionality.

Anyone experience with this swype?

Is this something 20% love, and the rest hate ?

I loved swype, but the Nexus' JB keyboard is so good that I don't really have a need for it.  But if your thumbs are hurting it could be perfect.

What about BB 10?

Note 2 is massive. I've used one. - I'm not a fan of it.

I'm addicted to Swype. I find it 100x faster than the regular way. That's not to say that I don't have my issues with it. Generally pre-installed Swype is better than downloaded. For instance the s2 & s3 it comes pre-installed but with the gnex you have to install the beta version... Foreign words you can save to your dictionary and it will work like a regular word..until you wipe your phone etc

BB 10 is supposed to be good at multi language typing

I've been using swype for ~a year and a half, ok so my thumb is not hurting, but as I write this, my index finger is aching, and it would have taken me half the time to write this with a BB keyboard, as I wouldn't have had to correct the Swype a dozen times at least.
Tough, I do love the voice recognition system on my ice cream sandwich!

I'd take a BB style keyboard any day, just MHO.
