Questions from Smith Research in Chicago - Would you answer?
« on: January 10, 2013, 05:50:50 PM »
I was contacted by a rep from Smith Research in Chicago, who is apparently conducting a market research project for Citi. They've asked me to relate what credit cards I have... would you do it?

When I said that I was a bit hesitant about answering (security profiling and all), they said they have a phone number for a contact at Citi for exactly that purpose... I left a message by her, but I'm frankly not expecting a call back (they'll probably fill the quota without me, though I'd certainly like the $$!)

Am I paranoid or prudent?

A little of the first and a lot of the second.  :)

The citi contact called me back!   :o

She was able to tell me the type of card they were looking for, so I could call the rep back and qualify without listing all my cards. Safe enough for me. And, yet another unexpected perk of joining the CC game!  8)

nonetheless,I still would be hesitant to give over any information that can compromise me
They shouldn't need your account number to conduct the survey
Also Google the numbers they called you from, lots of information out there about scams and the numbers they call from

Yep, the citi rep confirmed that nobody will be asking about account numbers, etc. And the businesses all check out, including a linked in profile for the citi rep with 300+ connections.

Edit: Apparently they're calling people with Citi AAdvantage cards in select cities, anyone else get a call??
