Facts
The flu vaccine causes more deaths per year than chicken pox.
The direct injection of RSV immunoglobulin, commonly known as the "RSV vaccine" would prevent 16x more deaths than the flu vaccine does, but is too expensive.
There is a vaccine for the plague, and that is why it is no longer an epidemic.
Ebola is caused by vaccines.
There is a vaccine for autism, but it causes mumps.

Opinions
Vaccines do not contain thimerosal, a known toxin.
If you snuck up on your neighbor's kid and cut open his skull, you would be arrested.  But when brain surgeons do it, and charge hundreds of thousands of dollars, it considered "medicine."
99% of vaccines do not cause autism (HT JJ1000).
Every pedi has seen healthy kids become sick physically & mentally hours after a vax (HT Baryochai)
Vaccines cause cancer, infertility, astma, adhd etc (HT Baryochai)

If Rabbonim go out of their lane and take extreme views on public health policy that are rejected by over 99% of the medical (and rabbinic) community, and the crisis is such that it endangers lives of tens of thousands of people, then yes, they can make a Chillul Hashem.

The implication of your statement is that if he is not correct, then it is a chillul Hashem, no? ETA: Which, to be clear, I don't think is true.

If he made a mistake in Psak which caused a chilul Hashem.

So L'Fi you its impossible to make a chilul Hashem as a posek?

You are making a huge mistake. If He is correct that one should not vaccinate(I am not getting into the debate on if He is right or wrong) then it is not a chilul hashem no matter how much the public decries it.

First off he is wrong. Not because I said so but because the medical establishment says so .

Perhaps you'd argue that a gadol knows more than shmutzik goyishe doctor's and can't possibly be wrong.. I'd go pound sand if that was your logic .

The argument was that his opinions personally become public psak din.. generally speaking there are many who follow in the March and stride of their gedolim and consider whatever they say to be the law.

Was Copernicus wrong when he said that the Earth revolved around the Sun?

No.  What does that have to do with this discussion?

Think a little bit.

If he meant to compare the consensus that the Sun revolved around the Earth to the consensus that vaccines don't cause autism that is a ridiculous comparison.

He meant that just because the medical establishment says something doesn't make it a fact.

Not really. You'll notice that when debunking the anti-vaxxers, anyone with a bit of scientific knowledge says "there is no evidence that vaccines cause x" (which is as close as science can get to saying "vaccines don't cause x")

The difference is in the standards of proof.  In the 1200's there were very limited tools available to prove one way or the other.

It is impossible to prove conclusively that vaccines don't cause autism but the tools available today to evaluate whether or not vaccines cause autism enable us to say with a very high level of confidence that vaccines don't cause autism.  Is it possible? Sure.  It is also possible that artificial lighting or the air quality in cities or cosmic radiation  or proximity to stray cats cause autism.  There is just no indication that any of them do.  We can also say with a high level of confidence that when you don't vaccinate, you are at higher risk of getting the disease and of being adversely affected by the effects of the disease.

Reason states that if we can say with high confidence that an action has great benefit and can also say with high confidence that it has no great risk, the right thing to do is to take the action.  Anti vaxxers agree.  They just believe in full blown conspiracies that cover up evidence that vaccines cause autism.
So no, there is no useful comparison to Copernicus.
