Topic Wiki

HTs have been last updated on 9/6/23

Q: I had deals posted to the main site, why do I have a zero?

A: It's not updated automatically, post a link to your deal on the forum(*), the DDMS link, and the number HT it should be and Dan will update it.

(*)If your HT is already in the DDMS post there's no need to link to the forum thread.

Hat tips are not awarded for:
-Amazon "Deal of the Day".
-B&H deal zone.
-Discountmags sales
-Credit card deals.
-Deals that are only part of a roundup.
-Deals that were posted as part of a master thread when they belong in a new thread.
-Deals posted in the following boards: SH, GD, TT, TDR, JS, or GFST.
-Deals that are posted with a thread title that doesn't spell out the full deal
-Back in stock/alive again updates within 3 months of the last update
-Deals posted more than 3 months after a forum post
-Updates to old post.
-Recurring sales such as 7/11 slurpee day, Rita's 1st day of spring, Nordstrom Anniversary, half yearly or seasonal sales, Flying Blue Promos, IHG Pointsbreaks, etc

Limit of 1 HT Per DDMS Post Per User.

HT has always gone to who told me or posted first.
That includes but not limited to DDF, DDMS Comments, Facebook & E-mail.

There is no need to bump a request if it was made after the last updated date in this Wiki.

New Bump Rule: A bump counts if it's been 3 months since last post. Same applies for DDF, if someone posted it within the past 3 months they get the HT.

Ahh, internet points. So valuable, yet so folly.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

The same as what? I don't follow.

Meaning the final result is the same whether Dan decides to change the rewards or I decide to stop posting, I will not be getting anything regardless so you have no basis to call BS.

I take issue with people that have 100's of HT's but only posted lousy deals, links to other sites deals or were the first to post an email notification deal from Amex or United that half the people here got.

When it comes to HT, it should quality > quantity.
I only have 6 HT but every one is for an original, high value deal that I found, not a link to some other site or a $5 off some stupid zero gravity chair that happens 3 times a week.

I have found every single deal I have posted that have received HT's without the help of any deals website.

I don't think he was reffering to you.

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

Meaning the final result is the same whether Dan decides to change the rewards or I decide to stop posting, I will not be getting anything regardless so you have no basis to call BS.
All of this talk has been totally theoretical. I know me personally if 3 people got a nice prize for getting 100 HT's and then I got 100 and didn't even get a thank you card I would be very upset. I called BS because I imagine anyone that worked hard on posting deals would feel the same.

I don't think anyone has a doubt that you are a very valuable deal poster and you likely bring the most original deals to DDF, for which I and I'm certain Dan and the rest of DDF/DD are very grateful for.

Now the discussion of whether the past 2 ht's or future multi-post thread ht's should earn 1 or two ht's is a totally different conversation. There has to be general parameters set up to determine what earns a ht and what doesn't.

For example some people want it to be based on quality, well that is for obvious reason far too hard to calculate and would make things very complicated. The same goes for 2 deals in one post, sometimes each would get it's own post sometimes it wouldn't. So a simple compromise is each member gets 1 ht per post regardless of how many of the deals they contributed.

As a specific example today I would not have posted the rocker but I would have posted the high chair, so it's just easiest to reward 1 ht per user per post.

And it seems like Dan likely made a mistake in the past, as he said he never intended to do it any different. I assume he is letting you keep those ht's either way. But going forward I hope this helped explain how it works somewhat.

I hope you continue to contribute here and I hope you reach 100 and Dan has something special for you as well. Maybe finally the real UPS method :)

Roundup

#WWAT
And that's why I didn't write a product rather then just post a price, with coupon and subscribe and save....

And #WWAT ?

Dan or Davidmal what do you say about this HT?

You didn't write anything in fact besides a price in an old post. I don't see how you can argue this one.

Was worth a try...
