Has anyone figured out the science for when Amex backdates for AUs and when they don't? Maybe charge vs credit?

Being a member since 19xx benefits as it backdates your credit report so it shows a longer history, or does it directly impact your Amex relationship too?

personaly i have the same thing. it says i am a member since 07, i was 17 then. i didnt even know what a cc was, bec we only used cash bath in that day. somehow im with them since 07 (which ended working for my benefit in a lot of cases) and yes i checked expirian and they see there is a card, but they cant pull it up bec its expired since 09. though my guess is, i think i was added onto my fathers biz credit card (spg) by mistake and it just stuck. thats why i think AU's d help credit score

Ah..I didn't know if your added as an AU in 2011 on a card opened 2006 that your now considered like you had a CC since 2006...that's how it works?

Yes according to cb if you never had an Amex account and first added as au when you open your first amex account it will backdate to the date of the person who you where added as au. Don't think it makes a different. Charge or credit

JUST TO UPDATE YOU GUYS; I WORKED FOR A COMPANY AND THEY MADE ME AN AU ON A BIZ CREDIT CARD WITHOUT LETTING ME KNOW.

IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO FIND THIS INFORMATION OUT. EVERY TIME I CALLED AMEX, THEY WOULD TELL ME THEY CAN'T DISCLOSE INFORMATION, JUST CONFIRM IT IF I SAID THE CORRECT ANSWER. SO I HAD TO PLAY A GUESSING GAME WITH THE REP UNTIL I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT.

since my reports are quite young it seems that the AU helps quite alot

No... I'm saying someone opened a Biz Plat in '06, made a phony AU with a random SSN (which just happened to be the OP's) for SBS '11, and closed the card in the beginning of '12. It never showed up on the OP's CR because the name and SSN never matched, but some gremlin lived on in the bowels of Amex's computerized records stating that SSN XXX-XX-XXXX was once attached to a card dated 2006.
