Methods for procuring a TZ number:

1) Use your Meuchedet number.
2) Use your Bituach Leumi number.
3) If you have an Israeli CC, call up the company to see what number they have on file for your account.
4) Certain other companies may have a TZ on file for your account, such as HOT or others. Call them up to find it out.
5) Ask an Arab taxi driver for a receipt  ;)
6) Make one up. Make up any 9 digit number. You start off by multiplying x2 every other number starting from the second number. If there is a remainder, add it together ie; 7*2=14= 1+4=5. Now add up all 9 digits together. If the sum is divisible by 10, it is a valid TZ. If not, tweak it until it is divisible by ten. The number 087451464, we would start off by multiplying 8*2=16= 1+6=7. Then 4*2=8, it's still a single digit so it stays at 8. After finishing that process, we end up with the numbers 0+7+7+8+5+2+4+3+4=40. 40 is divisible by 10, so it means that the number is valid.

Faking a Teudat Zehut (TZ)
« on: January 12, 2013, 05:25:12 PM »
Anyone that is living in Israel without citizenship will eventually stumble into the roadblock that is called Teudat Zehut. It is an impediment to signing up for cellphones, paying bills online and other things.

One solution I found is to learn one of the methods that companies use to verify a TZ. It goes like this: A TZ is made up of 9 numbers. Add up the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th numbers. Now add up the rest of the numbers 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th, and multiply by two (only the second set of numbers). Now add up the sum of the first group to the total of the 2nd group. If the final number is divisible by 10 with no remainder than you have a possible TZ number. If not, then definitely false. Here's an example of this method using the made up numbers 033071804. Parentheses mean that the number is in the even sequence and is multiplied by 2.
0+3(=6)+3+0+7+1(=2)+8+0+4 =30. If the last number were to be anything but a 4 it wouldn't work not 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.

I hope I was clear enough. Enjoy! (You can also guess randomly as the odds of hitting a possible number is 1/10. Also I think a regular TZ starts with 03 so start the guesses from there.

Another solution- if you managed to open a bank account with a credit card, call up the credit card company and ask them what TZ they have on file for you. Many times when paying with an Israeli CC, it verifies by looking up the TZ on the CC account. It worked for me to be able to order Golan.

+1, that's the way to do it.
I always ask any company that I'm registered by how my TZ (read: passport number) is registered by them, so when I call them it's easier to get identified.

In other words, if missing a number on a TZ, it can be figured out...

You will just get messed up when someone else uses the same number that you made up. I get along just fine with my bituah leumi number.

I never knew that the Meuhedet number works. Thanks! I'm guessing that there are situations when this method should help though.

So these 'meuchedet' and 'bituach leumi' (whatever TH they mean (government health insurance/social security?) ) identification numbers are not your Teudat Zehut?
Then what is?

To make it simple

If your not on Bituah leumi - your Meuchedet # is your passport number

If your on Bituah leumi - your Meuchedet # is the same as your bL #

If you have an Israeli TZ - your bituach leumi and meuchedet # are the same as your TZ #

Just go to Hot mobile in Malcha, sign up. They make up a TZ # for you. Ask them for it. Done.

Recent reports in the Israel Cell phone thread, say that the Malcha branch doesn't do it any more.

Todat Zehut is a israeli ID card that has a number on it.  When my wife got a israeli drivers license she went to some misrad (i think misrad harishui) and they gave her a mispar zehut, not a id card, but a id number... Prob when u sign up to Bituach leumi or so they apply for a mispar zehut for you. I alot of  times book a hotel as an israeli and when they ask for a tz number, i enter my wifes mispar

My swiss passport number is 7 digit, if i enter 00 before it accepts it as israeli number, by my wifes passport it doesnt accept it, so I guess by me they have such a number in the system...
