Amex Gift cards have blocked 9 straight orders for me each one with a different excuses. I don't get it because lifetime I only had one order and never exceeded limits or abused it... Spoken to 3 supervisors and I'm just frustrated already....

I got an email from AmEx advertising AmEx gift cards with no activation or purchase fees (with a coupon/redemption code)... Is this a good way to meet minimum spend requirements for the 2 new AmEx cards I just opened? Is there anything I should know about AmEx gift cards before I jump in?

I already checked that the balance does not expire, there are no post-purchase fees, and it seems as though with the redemption code in the email, there would be no activation fee, either... is this not free points??

Final question - can I share the redemption code? As in, will it work for anyone ? I did a search on the forums and didn't find it, so I'm happy to share so long as it's not gonna cause me issues...

If you're going to "cash-out" the giftcards by spending on purchases you'd make anyway, why buy the giftcards? You can just make your purchases on your CC and get the added benefits of purchase/return/warranty protection.

I'm a little concerned about hitting my spend requirements in the time that I have, and I also didn't add DH to the accounts. This would be a way to ensure I hit my spend requirements, and also a way to give DH a card to use for purchases he'd make normally. I might also pre-buy some generic gift cards I could use for weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, etc.

But what I did verify is this is an 'open' offer, the code is EMWISHCM for those who are interested

You should've specified that tidbit, it definitely makes sense for hitting spending requirements, just beware that:

1. Buying too many of these GCs can trigger Amex F/R.
2. You will be out the spend requirement until you cash out the giftcards, might be a cashflow problem for some people.

Anyway to argue that with them? Do you know if I'll get hit with the same cash advance fee if I buy AmEx gift cards with a Visa?

Doesn't hurt to try getting those CA fees removed... maybe you'll get lucky.
What kind of Visa? If it's from Citi you'll be charged the CA fees again.

This is SOP for Citi. All Citi cards charge a CA fee for any purchase coded as: MEMBER FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS - MERCHANDISE AND SERVICE
