FWIW I've been using the cards to pay quarterly taxes. When portals offered more than 1.87% you make money on paying taxes.

Purchases never show up, but I just open a ticket with order info and always get the credit with no problems.

I hear that but to me, having to open a ticket qualifies as a problem in itself.

I understand from the postings and the wiki:
Citi considers it a CA.
Barclays considers it a purchase.

I haven't found confirmation that Chase considers it a purchase. Can anyone confirm?

And what about Amex itself? Will I get Starpoints if I use my new SPG? Will it count toward the initial spending threshold?

Amex GC site stinks as usual, I make a $4k order and it gets declined by Amex (even though my credit card went through fine), and their Indian customer service is the worst (I asked to speak to the American department and they said their isn't) and now I hit the $5k in 14 day rule... Any other websites I can buy fee free gc's on, or at least very cheap (not staples - because I'm not using an INK)?

Make sure that your billing info matches exactly, then it will be just fine
