I've ordered dozens -- back in the good ole AP & 3.5%CB days -- without issue, and the last order I placed went through initially - the payment was accepted but was never confirmed. It continued to be processing and just dropped off eventually. Not sure why, it was the same credit card I had used for at least 20K of GCs, but worked for me- I was punkt planning to cancel that order

I noticed on my Amex account home page an offer for no-purchase fee GC. Seems like a good way to MS on my Amex cards (no purchase fees, then charge to Square-up, no transaction fees). Has anyone tried this? Is it safe? Will it count as a purchase and not a CA?

Better to pay the card fee and earn the cash back. Don't use Citi cards.

There may be some degree of risk involved. see here
Some people have been forced to process refunds to GCs to recover the money from closed square accounts. You may get stuck with GCs.

I was initially planning to buy AmEx GCs for my free MS with square so I could get the extra CB, but I can't afford to be stuck with thousands of dollars of GCs and needing to pay the CC that was used to purchase them, so since the reports of square closing accounts for processing too many GCs I'm just swiping CC directly.

if your stuck with AMEX gc's, you can always call up Amex and they'll cancel the gcs and refund your credit card. I've done it.

Why would you buy a GC if it's safer to use a CC? Lol

1. I believe I just wrote that I am not going to use GCs for exactly that reason.

2. I'm not going to elaborate because it's not really supposed to be discussed here, but if you look through this thread (the last couple of months) you just may find discussions that will enlighten you as to reasons why one may want to buy GCs instead of using a CC directly.

Amex just redid the GC site. Maybe i'll have better luck of my orders actually going through.

The fee free codes are only from Amex, although you can purchase Amex gift cards elsewhere for a fee.

Are people being F/Red for buying Amex GCs at Amex's website the same as if they buy in stores?
Does Amex not closely monitor this as well for the purchase not to be more than ~$500-$1500?

I'm seeing that guys here are buying a lot more and it seems to be fine with Amex.
