My quick rating and reviews (based on my best recollection) of my recent RT JFK-ZRH-TLV-ZRH-JFK on LX. Beware that my opinions/reviews generally exclude the main dish.

JFK-ZRH (in J) got Regal (Borenstein with Volover supervision) and was pleasantly surprised with the Dinner. Though I didn't even look at the main dish (Short Ribs of sorts, sounded good), the Edamame salad was surprisingly good. Also fruit cup (some grapes, Orange and Grapefruit) was good and didn't seem to have been previously frozen. I would rate it 7.5 on the ZSH scale (would give it an 8 if they would figure out how to get good bread/rolls into there).

ZRH-TLV (in J) got Schalom (I seem to recall that last time I got it it was under R' Schwartz of Vienna, this time it was under R' Breish of Zurich). Didn't look or touch the main course which was veal of sorts. Appetizer fish platter was somewhat decent (though it boggles my mind why they feel they need to put a small piece of gefilte fish there, shaped and colored like sushi), coleslaw was rather soggy, dessert was the usual log looking creme dessert with some cake base - I've got it in different colors and flavors from Schalom catering, always quite decent. I'd rate the overall meal a 5 on the ZSH scale.

TLV-ZRH (in Y) was served Hamasbia (under Badatz Eida Chareidis) which was served out of Swiss reusable plastic containers of sorts. This looks very similar to what we got as KSML. In the container were some slices of fresh cucumber and cherry tomatoes, as well as some slices of cheese and cubes of cheese - those were the only decent parts of the meal. I didn't touch what looked like some kind of fruit yogurt in the smaller compartment of the "tray", and the hot portion was an Onion Kugel which was served out of a cardboard container. Overall I'd rate the meal 2.5 on the ZSH scale (with the fresh vegetables and the Cheese being the redeeming factor). Not sure if it was the Kugel that made me feel sick, or just exacerbated whatever else made me feel bad, but I was forced to use the lavatories on the A32B, and IMHO those aircraft should be promptly grounded based on the impossibility to ensure sanitary conditions in those lavatories, until some humanly usable lavatories are installed!

ZRH-JFK (in J) was served Schalom (under Breish - Agudas Achim Zurich). Dinner had Couscous salad was surprisingly decent (after earlier experience with their salads). Fish platter was decent, but when I tried to figure out what the breaded piece was, I discovered that here again they felt some kind of urge or obligation to include a piece of gefilte fish which I obviously didn't even taste - I fail to figure that one out. Didn't look at the main dish, but ruined my impression of the couscous salad by taking a bite out of the bittersweet chocolate - too sweet IMHO. I'd rate the meal a 6 on the ZSH scale, as the couscous salad didn't suffer as bad from sogginess as the Coleslaw that was served on an earlier flight. Breakfast on the same flight was served a lox sandwich on a pretzel bun. The bun looked and felt soggy and not very fresh, so I just had the lox out of the sandwich.

I find the bread/rolls/bagels/pita situation on all KSML to be one of the worst parts. IMHO the caterers should either include a dry toast and/or crackers, or have the airlines heat up some double wrapped pre-frozen bread, roll or pita.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

This just goes to show that I'm open minded. And willing to give credit where it's due, even if it's from ELAL (Borenstein being a wholly owned subsidiary of ELAL).  ;)

Just a quick question. You don't eat the main meal because it's not Lubavitcher Shechita?

Lol, talking about on average, not any particular meal.
Though I question the usefulness of scoring without the hot entree. I rarely touch the rest of the stuff as it's typically frozen.

Correct. Whatever that means. The only airline that serves Lubavitcher Shechita AFAIK is SU (same meal for breakfast, lunch and supper).

Which is why I was so pleasantly surprised. It didn't seem like the meal was previously frozen. I'm not sure how they managed to pull that one of with LSG at JFK.
