I know you're not a practicing rabbi, but is there a particular way to wrap them?

Anyone tried the KSML offerings on B6 Mint?  Have an upcoming flight, usually stick to vegetarian options since KSMLs sourced stateside are generally awfully bad, but in their case they post the menu and it actually sounds like fairly decent stuff:

While I'm not Jewish, after reading this thread and doing some additional follow-up research on Koscher meals, I am considering ordering Koscher meals on my flights from now on.  Not only because of the strict preparation methods, but they look far more appetizing and edible than what I'm normally served in coach.  Does this make sense?  Are Koscher meals served on airlines typically better than what is generally served in coach?

Umm. Where did you do this research?

A bunch of random sites, wikis, youtube, etc.  There is a youtube video that I wish I had the link on hand for right now, but it was for JewishTV or something like that.  In any case the presenter was basically selling Koscher meals as "first class meals for coach".

I'm guessing by your response that you don't agree with that statement?

EDIT:  I found the link, and it's on the JewishNewsOne channel actually.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=zllfP2G7tBo

There is no doubt (at least to me) that Kosher meals are prepared in a manner far stricter than your run-of-the-mill meal, at least when it comes to supervision of cleanliness and ingredients.

I'm afraid to say, however, that (at least to me) the non-Kosher meals look far more appetizing than their Kosher counterparts actually taste. So I wouldn't get my hopes up on that account.

Though do let us know your thoughts if you end up taking the plunge.

The video is deceptive and inaccurate. The video shows the nonkosher meal as a simple small package and the kosher one as a full multi course meal when in truth it always seems to be the opposite. Also if that was truly a standard kosher meal the FA would likely have brought it packaged and not opened up and displayed everything.
Well i encourage you to definitely try it and report back it seems the grass is always greener...
The video probably had an agenda to convince nonreligious Jews to eat kosher

On one hand I don't think it's for me or anyone else to judge someone else's decision to request a SPML from an airline (KSML or otherwise) but I do worry if it gets abused on a large scale cost conscious airlines will continue to limit their availability.  Some here may recall that until mid-2011 UA allowed SPMLs on all domestic flights even mid-con flights with UDU (comp upgrades).  Several posters boasted on the FT "Let's Eat" thread that they ordered and sampled the meals when no legitimate need existed.  Again I'm not saying people should/shouldn't do it but those of us with legitimate needs who depend on this service don't want to see it pared back further due to misuse.

There is no doubt (at least to me) that Kosher meals are prepared in a manner far stricter than your run-of-the-mill meal, at least when it comes to supervision of cleanliness and ingredients.

Commercial kosher kitchens run under the same health and safety guidelines as non-kosher facilities. Which is to say, how clean any individual plant is beyond what the government requires, depends on the qualities demanded by its specific mangers. Any mashgiach can tell you that in some places the Kosher kitchen is cleaner and more hygienic, and sometimes it is not. The kosher certification has no bearing on that.

From people that have personally inspected airline KSML facilities in South Africa, they were exactly the same as their non-kosher counterparts. Both were pristine facilities, with the highest levels of hygiene and cleanliness - far superior to other commercial facilities. When the meals were outsourced to caterers which did not cater solely to airlines, the standards dropped to whatever they were in that specific facility. Which leads me to think that airlines have stricter standards for their meals than standard health and safety regulations, (at least in South Africa) but KSMLs which are produced by third part caterers are not necessarily subject to those rules, and thus not as clean as their non-kosher counterparts.

That's about cleanliness. As for ingredients, governments are far more lenient about not listing items with minimal percentages or just trace amounts (AFAIK), which cannot fly with Kosher meals.

I always order a KSML even if I know I won't be eating it (unreliable hechsher, or other reasons). I want to do my part to show the demand for the product. No demand = no service. The more people that order KSMLs, the better, IMHO.

or look at it from the other way, if there is more demand they may possibly step up their game or availability
