Do you mean squad car?
No I mean SWAT. The officer had a swat uniform also.

Oh the advantages of living in a good neighborhood.

Ya NY police department...

This past Friday when leaving the house in the morning (in Beachwood) I found a bike on the side of my house. After calling everyone that would have left it there I called the non-emergency police phone number. I explained my situation and the lady told me an officer will be there to pick up the bike shortly. Three minutes later a swat car is at my front door.

Can you imagine what their response time is for a shooting?

Feel free to add my auto-correct, blue-moon typo to the thread, if you feel you must.

Maybe not the right thread but I can feel my ears hurting from all the screaming I would get for starting a new thread ^-^ .

Is there any way to locate a vehicle owner by it's license plates?
I saw a valet parking guy who scratched a bit a car and I wanna inform the car owner.
Is the car has a decal from the dealer who sold/leased it, the dealer should be able to contact the owner,IME.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I was rear ended by a truck in a hit and run in NY. I drove behind/alongside him honking and motioning to pull over but he refused. I called 911 but they refused to get into a wild goose chase and insisted they will only come if I call off the chase and pull over to the side of the highway. I waited a while for them but they were not coming and with shabbos approaching I had to leave.

I got his license plate but as I later learned, the license plate on the rear of the trailer isn't as important as the front license plate on the cab :(. I called the truck company who wasn't cooperating and wouldn't give me the name of their insurance company. I did some sleuthing and found out who they use for insurance. They mentioned the possibility of settling but when I told them I want $1,300 (per estimate) they said no way and denied that the accident ever happened.

I filed a claim with their insurance but it got denied because they are denying that it occurred.
I filled out a police report form that I had to mail to Albany and now I'm waiting for it to be registered in their system. I asked their insurance to write up a summary explaining the claim and my story vs theirs but so far they haven't sent it to me. My insurance said if I pay a $500 deductible they will cover the claim with no adverse affects to me and then they will go sue the other insurance but won't return my deductible even if they recover everything :(.

What do I do now? I figure I can file a lawsuit against them? Anyone have experience doing such a thing? Will it boil down to my word against theirs and I'll get nothing for it or do I have a shot?
Should I post their number here so we can get a chain of people to call them and harass or is that counterproductive?
What ended up happening?

Check the lisence plate number for parking tickets, if you see many tickets at the same address then he either lives or works there. Stalking, I know...

Next time you can just leave a note on the windshield.

What ended up happening?
I filed a lawsuit in small claims court naming the insurance company and the truck company as defendants asking for $1,300 for damages plus $48 for the court fees. They paid some lawyer to write a whole fancy (bogus) lettter explaining why they don't owe me anything (It never happened, and even if it did it was my fault etc).

We're now scheduled for a trial by jury in July. I'm assuming they will reach out to settle before then because it's not worth it for them to pay a lawyer to come to court (even if they end up winning - and there's a possibility that they will lose and pay me + the lawyer).

If it ends up going to a jury, on the one hand I have an advantage because they may sympathize with the little guy against the fancy lawyer from a big company. On the other hand as an Orthodox Jew, depending on who is on the jury it's possible I will have an immediate disadvantage. The court is near Lakewood - here's hoping there's some orthodox jews on the jury :)

Don't count on that  :)

Did it cost you anything to initiate? Was it difficult?

I paid $48 in court fees (With one defendant it would cost $39). Other than that it's pretty simple.
You fill out pages 9 and 11 and mail it with a check to Ocean County Court in Toms River.

I didn't pay the $50 fee to request a 6 person jury - they requested it and paid that fee.
So far they're on the path to this costing them more than I'm asking for :)

How does a six person jury benefit them? And what is the alternative to a six person jury?

I believe the alternative was having a judge decide and they preferred a jury.

To avoid starting a new thread...

I tried passing a garbage truck in Lakewood on a two way street. A car was coming towards me so I stopped, and the garbage truck hit my car, causing some damage to a door, but no damage to the garbage truck. The cop who came to file a report said I am at fault because I was on the wrong side of the street, but the report clearly says that I was not moving at the time of the accident, and the truck crashed into my car.

Does it pay to file a claim? The municipality is self-insured.

Is there any chance that my rates will go up if I make a claim?

You can make the claim directly with the other side's (self) insurer without involving your own insurance carrier.

I'm not sure about your story but IME the fact that you were not moving at that time of the incident is a big factor.

In his report he just wrote the facts, nothing regarding who is at fault.

There is no real insurance company, it's the township.

You file a claim with them the same way anyone who got into an accident with one of their vehicles would.
