if I usually want a video I will google "download YouTube video." a few sites will pop up where you enter the video URL and it will download it as an flv file. I think vlc plays flv files now.

Seems to work great, but it downloaded some other "stuff" as well I think.

All the ones I were finding weren't programs to download.

FYI all: the youtube download from the above thread downloaded  bunch of lovely malicious software as well which I just spent an hour removing from my comp. NOT RECOMMENDED.

I'm wondering if the OP used an of those programs himself.

My bad for not researching before downloading.

Not your fault.  I did end up deleting the whole program. Shame cuz it worked well. My only concern now is if the files I did save using that program are bad now too.

I told you just Google :P I googled MP3 from YouTube and got this website. I think I used it before http://www.youtube-mp3.org/

Blimey.  This was the program I used to use and for a while the site wasn't running. This is one of the only sites I ever found that didn't make you download a program to download your finished MP3.

That site stopped working for many files IME. Now they put up some petitions to try and get back to normal functionality.
