amex points refunds

there has been reports by ddf'ers that if u shut down your card with a remining points balance amex sends u a check in the mail.
does anyone know if it is a rule? because 2 cents per point for 25k is a better price then i'll get anywhere else....

Where'd you see that?  I did get a check for $800 a couple months ago and the letter said i had applied for a card and was supposed to get 40,000 points but they forgot to give it to me before i closed the card.
I didn't remember that...but...who knows...

Got points for signup points,  however had a refund that now made the spend threshold below requirement. Can this be an issue? Do i still need to re-spend the difference?

It is a good idea but does it matter? On a retention bonus it did not matter.
