On this topic, it's upsetting how due to ignorance, every year people are נכשל into making a brocho l'vatolo (an issur d'oraisa, according to many), by making a Shehecheyanu on dried fruits.
A fruit has to be ניכר that it's new and fresh -חדש, dried fruit are not eligible for shehecheyanu.
Don't just take my word for it, ask YLOR, or Google it in English or Hebrew.
It may be the fault of those Jewish companies putting out so called "Tu B'shvat platters", indirectly deceiving the public.
The fruit (or vegetable) also has to be in season.
FWIW, some poskim even hold, that one cannot make Shehecheyanu on fruit בזה"ז.
Who said you have to find a new fruit?
